Best Practice 1
1. Title of the Practice: Best Reader:-
2. The context that required the initiation of the practice:
The college is situated in hilly, remote and very backward region of Ratnagiri district. In the beginning of the academic year it was observed that students were not making use of reading room and not accessing the books from the library except study books. They were also not reading the magazines and periodicals. Hence, it was required the initiation of the practice. This practice has been continuously implemented every year.

To inculcate reading culture among the students.

To provide a learning environment that encourages intellectual exploration and active learning.

To serve as an information center for students.

To provide resources and activities that support college curriculum and represent a diverse range of experiences and perspectives.

To provide books that teaches to students ethically living and understanding a variety of information, sources, and technologies.
4. The Practice:
In this innovative practice the following was done:
In the beginning of the academic year introductory lecture was organized on the library. The students were motivated to access the reference, text, fiction, drama, historical and miscellaneous books and magazines from the library.
Library Committee made the list of the students who accessed maximum books from the library. Those students were called for interview. After evaluation the Best Reader was declared.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:
The main obstacle in the way of running this practice initially, all students was not participated in this practice. Some students were issued only study books, not other reading books. We always made contact to students for the use of books and overcome the obstacle.
6. Impact of the practice:
This practice brought drastic changes in the use of library books by the students. Through this practice positive impact on students was observed. Circulation of books and use of reading room were increased.

Best Practice 2
1. Title of the practice: Book Exhibition
2. The context that requires the initiation of the practice:
Library has very much important and rare books which were not for home loan. Students were not known, which collection library had. There was not possible for students to purchase every book. To promote books, there were required 'Book Exhibition'.
3. Objectives:

To promote books and books reading habit among students and society.

To achieve college responsibility as a teaching and educational institution, allowing for the exchange of ideas and expertise to establish a foundation of this event.

To provide an intellectual forum for all interested in debating and discussing global issues of humanity and culture.

To establishment of a vibrant meeting place and for supporting to the development of thought and culture in India.
4. The Practice:
In this innovative practice the following was done:
One of the most important practice organized by library is Book Exhibition. On the occasion of particular issue related and important books list was created. All books according to list was brought out from the shelf and arranged attractively on exhibition place. Students, staff and village people visited to book exhibition.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:
The main obstacle in the way of running this practice was, contacting to people and students to give information of book exhibition. The lack of media publication there were occurred problems to reach towards people. But we made successfully contacted to people by newspaper publication, distributing pamphlets and sending information to parents through students and overcome the obstacle.
6. Impact of the practice:
This practice brought changes in the walk in of library visitors. Students were willingly reached to library for issuing books and sitting in reading room. So that the law of library science 'Books are for use' became successful.

Best Practice 3
1. Title of the Practice: Display of Newspaper Cutting
2. The context that required the initiation of the practice:
All students were not reached to newspaper stand for reading whole newspaper. There was not possible to library users for purchasing all newspapers. According to the law of library science 'Save the time of reader', required this practice of displaying of newspaper cutting.
3. Objectives:

To update library users about ongoing issue and current affairs.

To learn for students about different types of paper cutting and the countries where they originated.

To know about different cultures and people to students.

To know the employments news to students.

To keep documentation of college activities which are from past, ongoing and upcoming programs.

To attract students and library visitors for reading culture.
4. The Practice:
In this innovative practice following was done:
After coming daily newspapers in the library, all papers read by library person and selected some important topics for display of newspaper cutting, if sometime staff and students requirement came to library for displaying particular newspaper clipping, that newspaper cutting was displayed by the library. Library also displayed college activities newspaper cutting and provide to staff as per their requirement.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:
The main obstacles in the way of running this practice, library users were not visited regularly to newspaper clipping board. After displaying various subjects and topics of newspaper cutting and we always told to students to see the board, and we overcome the problem.
6. Impact of the Practice:
Students reaching to library were increased and they also asked information from newspaper cutting.

Best Practice 4
1. Title of the Practice: B.C. Book Bank facility to SC/ST/OBC Category students
2. The context that required the initiation of the practice:
The college is situated in hilly, remote and very backward region of Ratnagiri district. Maximum students belong socially and economically backward. Mumbai University initiated these scheme for the college library so that our college followed this scheme and given benefits to all backward students. In this practice, firstly college library have to spend money every year on text and reference books, furniture for the storing of books, and remuneration to teachers for their extra class and guidance to slow learner. University has given format for spending B.C. Book Bank Scheme. After spending money on this scheme, college library have to be send utilization certificate to University then university give grant to this scheme for college library.
3. Objectives:

To provide valuable books to socially backward class students.

To provide extra class for slow learner students.

To provide extra books to economical backward students on their requirement.

To create awareness of higher education among socially backward students.
4. The Practice:
In this innovative practice the following was done:
On request of department of B.C. Book bank scheme, college transferred advance rupees to the B.C. Book bank scheme for purchasing of books, furniture and remuneration to staff. Library purchased all as per the format of university of Mumbai and sent utilization certificate. Beginning of the academic year B.C. Book bank department arranged staff and students meeting and informed what facilities provided by the department to students. After the membership of students in B.C. Book bank scheme started book circulation for loan. Two or more books had provided to each student those who belong in B.C. Book bank scheme.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:
In this practice, obstacle is inadequate budget for the scheme. But every year college given maximum budget for the scheme and overcome the problem.
6. Impact of this practice:
Through this practice increased library collection and B.C. Book Bank department provided books to students on their requirement.

Best Practice 5
1. Title of the practice: Celebration of Dr. S.R. Rangnathan Birth Anniversary, founder of library
2. The Context that required the initiation of the practice:
The college students were not known about Dr. S.R. Ranganathan and his contribution to the library profession. To create awareness and importance of library utilization among students, library organized and celebrated Dr. S.R. Ranganathan's Birth Anniversary day in the college.
3. Objectives:

To know the contribution of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan for library profession.

To know the five laws of library science formulated by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan.

To discuss with students about important of library in higher education.

To know students how to use of library in scientific method.

To know students development of library over all world.

To know the library services provided by college library.
4. The Practice:
One of the most important practices organized by college library. In this practice we arranged lecture for the students on the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan and guided to students on i) How to use library? ii) What are library services? iii) What is the contribution of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan for library profession? And guided about development of library in the world?
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:
In this practice students were not ready to attend the programme. With the help of staff and library committee overcome this obstacle.
6. Impact of the practice:
This practice brought the drastic changes among students to reach the library and their behavior in the library.

Best Practice 6
1. Title of the Practice: Orientation programme about library at the outset of academic year
2. The context that required the initiation of the practice:
Library is important factor in the college for students. Every student knows about library rules, regulations, Library services and its function and how to use library management software. This is the context required for the initiation of the practice.
3. Objectives:

To introduce students about library services.

To know library policies for students and staff.

To know the access of library and library services.

To know library users about how to use the library software and OPAC.

To know the library collection to students.
4. The Practice:
In this innovative practice following was done:
Beginning of the academic year, library arranged class wise orientation programme for new coming students for giving information and for introducing the library. Maximum students were presented this programme and guided on how to use library?, what are the rules and regulation of the library?, What are services provided to students?, How can books issue and return? How do use library software?, What is the benefits of using library software?, What is the collection of the library?. These all things elaborated and discussed with students.
5. Obstacles faced if any and strategies adopted to overcome them:
There were not faced major obstacles in this practice. Those students had come to college and presented in the class that all students were presented for this practice.
6. Impact of this practice:
Reaching of all students to library was increased. Student behavior in the library was good. As per the rules and regulation students issued books and used reading room for their study.

7. Best Practice
Title : Training students to use College Library Resources
1. Objective of the Practice:
To make students aware of the available library resources and services.
2. Need Addressed and the Context:
Students are fast losing their habit of visiting libraries to read, even if they do, their reading is confined to prescribed texts. They hardly look around to peruse other books in their college library. The need is to introduce the habit of visiting the library frequently to look at books of various types and to utilize the service available.
3. The Practice:
The practice involves the organization of book exhibitions. In order to promote focused reading the exhibitions are organized on chosen themes. Most of the books of the library are the exhibits. A quiz is organized to promote reading widely and in depth.
4. Evidence of Success:
A Large number of Students visit the exhibitions. Many participate in the quiz. Also book transaction records show that the reading habit of students is on the increase.
